8、Pub hours shake-up revealed next week
By James Hardy Political Editor
PUBS and clubs will be allowed to stay open round-the-clock under a planned radical change of Britain's outdated licensing(许可证发放)laws.
Prime Minister Tony Blair yesterday revealed a Bill(议案)to bring in the long-awaited improvement will be contained in the Queen's Speech next week. Some public bars and clubs could be open all hours while others could choose different closing times into the early hours.
Police forces around the country have said different closing times will mean the explosion in violence and vandalism(破坏行为)after 11p.m.-when aggressive drunks are sent out at the same time.
The move will be opposed by some MPs(下院议员)who fear it will lead to increased alcoholism, drunken behavior and crime. But ministers say there will be controls on which pubs and clubs are allowed to open 24 hours a day.
Places which consistently attract violent drunks and troublemakers will be turned down.
Mr.Blair said:"We believe there should be greater flexibility in licensing. In the end,the evidence that we have is that it may help in the fight against anti-social behavior. At the moment the very fixed nature of the hours sometimes means that you get particular problems outside pubs and city centers at particular hours of the evening."
The big change will be accompanied by a strict action on petty criminals who cause misery to urban and rural communities.
In a bid to prevent criticism of the licensing improvement, the Govenment is to extend on-the-spot fines to a range of offences from vandalism.
The PM said yesterday petty crime was the single biggest cause of daily aggressive behavior for millions.

B、the crime which is very serious

12、The year 2000 will bring big changes in communication.Cell phones will be small enough to carry in your pocket.Videophones will let you see the person you are talking to on the phone.Tiny hand size computers will know your favorite subjects. The Internet and email will be everywhere.Technologists believe 2000 will be the year of video messaging. You will be able to see whom you're talking to.
Also in the near future small wireless boxes will pick up information from satellites. In 5 years, computers won't need to be connected through wires.
All of this will be good for rural areas and countries that don't have cable or telephone now.
In 20 years you may only need to think about something and the computer will do it.

14、Vegans try to live, as much as possible, in a way that avoids exploiting and being cruel to animals.“his means following a plant-based diet. Vegans do not eat animals or animal-based products like meat, fish, seafood, eggs, honey and dairy products such as cheese. For many vegans, living a committed vegan lifestyle means not wearing clothes made from animal skins and avoiding any products which have been tested on animals.Vegans argue that suffering is caused in the production of these foods. For example, they say that, on some dairy farms, male calves(小牛)are killed because they are too expensive to keep, and cows are killed when they get older and produce less milk. As for honey, vegans say that bees make honey for bee, not for humans, and that bees’health can suffer when humans take the honey from them. Vegans be lieve that the products they use and consume should be free from not just cruelty but any exploitation of animals. The main reason for going vegan is probably that they believe animals and all other sentient(有感知能力的)beings should have the right to life and freedom. However, there are other reasons. Vegans argue that the production of meat and other animal products is very bad for the environment. They point out that a huge quantity of water is needed to grow grain to feed animals in the meat industry. The enormous amount of grain which the meat industry needs often leads to forests being cut down and habitats(栖息地)being lost. In contrast, much lower quantities of grain and water are needed to sustain a vegan diet. In addition, many vegans say that all the nutritious elements our bodies need are contained in a carefully planned vegan diet and that this type of diet helps prevent some diseases.Which of the following could be found in a vegan’s diet?
